Averted a house fire!

Well here I am, minding my own business, chockers full of hayfever after mowing the lawn (big yard so takes a while) when I think I can smell something burning. So first of all I check the laptop.. nope, not there so onto the kids computer, check the bird isn't smoking something illegal and then into the kitchen.
Still nothing so I go searching further afield. I still only "think" I smell something cos my nose is running like a tap, I am sneezing and coughing my head off and so clagged up its a wonder I could even think to smell anything!

Last room in the house is my daughters bedroom, she is out and the door is shut so I open it and am engulfed in smoke!!!! Her room is typically a tip but I brave the mess and go on in. There on the floor is a powerboard with a bright red glow, pouring smoke out of it. First instinct is to unplug it and take it out, brain kicks in so I go outside and turn the power off to the house, run back in and unplug the board and turf it outside till it stops smoking. Inspect the damage inside the house, other than the stink of smoke and a scorched patch in the carpet we have luckily had none.

I am thanking my lucky stars this didn't happen at night where we might have slept (and died!) through the smoke. Training with the RFS doesn't quite have the impact of a near miss.

The mind boggles

After stumbling on a news story from news.com.au I am left wondering at some ppl. Actually make that most people. Anyway here goes with what made my mind boggle...

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24174888-23109,00.html

A MAN is lucky to still have a penis after he inserted it in a metal park bench and became stuck, doctors say.
At least a dozen police and emergency services workers were called to the park in Hong Kong after 41-year-old Le Xing’s penis became trapped in a hole, apparently after he became aroused.

It gets better.....

For heavens sake - WHY WHY WHY would ANYONE want to do any of those things? A blow up doll is one thing, but a pushbike???

Geez!!

Is it August?

Mousie "Is it still August?"
Mum "No! It's JUNE!"
Mousie "No, I mean is it still the season where all the leaves fall down?"
Mum "Autumn?"
Mousie "Yeah, thats the one - I don't know WHY you thought August!"
Mum "cos u SAID August"
Mousie "Yeah but I mean't Autumn"

Long pause

Mouse "You're a dingleberry - fancy thinking it was August...."

Blown Away by You Tube

Surfing through You Tube tonight watching video's of babies laughing (very infectious) when I got sidetracked and popped in Oboe then listened to some old favourites I used to play such as the Mozart Oboe Concerto, Ravel, and some Pan pieces. Then out of a flash of something I popped in raaf central band in the search and came up with 1 video - and guess what??? It is one I performed in.

Well knock me down with a feather!! I am in total shock. In fact it is an even bigger shock seeing a close up of a total arsehole in there but anyway I digress, and here it is - a video from You Tube with yours truly in it.

Can't wait to show the kids tomorrow night!

Divorced

Yay I have been divorced for nearly a week now. I thought about posting on the day but last week was just too busy. Plus I was doing dumb things like taking the car with me for lunch then walking back to work!

Maybe this week will be better and I will cease to be comic entertainment and be super smart for the week.

So what do you think of this little, er big, beauty?

I got woken up at 2am the other morning by no4 daughter, it was by her head on the wall next to her bed. She spent the rest of the night in my bed and we dealt with it in the morning - after I took photos.

Now the only editing done was to "move" it closer to the door frame I kept in the pic to show the size - I wasn't about to stick a ruler up next to it!!!!! OR pick it up and move it closer to the wall, so next best thing, copy and paste it in the photo.

It was so big it wouldn't suck up the vacuum hose. Ever seen a spider body just fit up the hose and the legs grip the outside so it can't go up?? Well picture when you try and drag a kid off to do something they don't want to - like clean a room, or do the dishes. You know how they hang on to door jambs and you got to prise them off so they grab another and by the time u get one arm off another has purchase, as well as a foot and it seems they have an extra set of arms like an octopus so it almost takes two of you to pull limbs off the doors and keep them that way???? Well that was what the spider did, except I wasn't about to touch it. Eventually it gave up and disappeared up the hose and into the water bowl of my rainbow vac. Not before time too - talk about a massive case of the heeby jeebies!!!

On another note I found a MUCH nicer beastie when cleaning up in the yard. I wish I had found it a couple of days ago and I could have fed the spider to it (ugh I shudder at the thought of that spider still). Anyway I was picking up bits of board to throw in the trailer when a head and long scaley body came out at me. After the initial prerequisite heart attack I noticed it had legs and a lovely blue tongue. It climbed over my foot, tasting it with its tongue and then into the weeds I have so carefully cultivated under the orange tree (ok, so I didn't cultivate them - the only things I grow with any semblance of success is weeds).

Just in case you forgot.......

Ooops

Ooops how norti - neglected my blog since December last year!

Well naturally a lot has happened since then. Christmas, holidays here with the kids, work, more work (why is there always more work than fun??) and a divorce.

Christmas was good - I spent it with Dad and friends as the kids were with their Dad in Qld. Naturally they didn't ring and I had to chase around the inlaws till I found them. Anyway had two christmas dinners and all in all was nice and quiet.

I had all 4 kids here for a holiday. The first week was fantastic, nice having all 4. No1 has his learners so I didn't have to drive once, except for when he got cranky and it came through in his driving, which of course made him crankier when I pulled the pin on him driving till he calmed down. Second week degenerated until both he and No3 were aggressive and fighting all the time. Needless to say they went home early. nuf is enuf.

No4 was planning on moving back with Dad but in all of this changed her mind - YAY!!! What a relief. I was / am SO pleased. Anyway have started proceedings to get custody and settlement all done through the courts since MrX won't sign anything.

Next was the big D - went to court, had a couple of hiccups where HE was going to stop it etc etc just to be a peanut. Anyway day came and went and he didnt' do a thing so the magistrate stamped the paper - only a month to go and it is permanent. Yay me!

So 2008 is off to a good start, I get my job sorted out one way or another this month, get divorced and despite the cost of courts etc hopefully will get all that out of the way too.

Cya in another post!
