Well here I am, minding my own business, chockers full of hayfever after mowing the lawn (big yard so takes a while) when I think I can smell something burning. So first of all I check the laptop.. nope, not there so onto the kids computer, check the bird isn't smoking something illegal and then into the kitchen.
Still nothing so I go searching further afield. I still only "think" I smell something cos my nose is running like a tap, I am sneezing and coughing my head off and so clagged up its a wonder I could even think to smell anything!
Last room in the house is my daughters bedroom, she is out and the door is shut so I open it and am engulfed in smoke!!!! Her room is typically a tip but I brave the mess and go on in. There on the floor is a powerboard with a bright red glow, pouring smoke out of it. First instinct is to unplug it and take it out, brain kicks in so I go outside and turn the power off to the house, run back in and unplug the board and turf it outside till it stops smoking. Inspect the damage inside the house, other than the stink of smoke and a scorched patch in the carpet we have luckily had none.
I am thanking my lucky stars this didn't happen at night where we might have slept (and died!) through the smoke. Training with the RFS doesn't quite have the impact of a near miss.
